Here are three fun-filled spring break alternatives that will have all your TikTok friends asking to stop gatekeeping and drop the pin!
First up, Belize!
A tiny little country but with a lot of punch. Belize is a great location for college students for several reasons.
Belize is all about adventure. It offers a wide range of activities such as snorkeling, diving, caving, zip-lining, and hiking. In fact, the country is home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world! Who needs to travel ALL the way to Australia when you can visit the next best thing only a couple of hours away?
Belize is also a melting pot of cultures! Wether it’s Mayan, Creole, or Mestizo cultures, you’re bound to learn about the country’s rich history and even experience what it was like back in the day given the many ancient Mayan ruins to explore.
Plus, Belize is an affordable destination compared to other Caribbean countries and it offers budget-friendly accommodations. Looks like that thing you wanted to splurge on + a relaxing vacation can all happen in the same year!
And because we know your parent’s are bound to ask. Belize is considered one of the safest countries in Central America, and it’s easy to navigate!
Next up, Portugal!

Portugal has a rich history and culture that spans back to the Roman Empire. The country is home to many historic sites, including Lisbon and Porto. History buffs, this is your paradise!
Portugal is a relatively affordable destination compared to other Western European countries. That means, you’ll find budget-friendly accommodation options, reasonably priced food and transportation to get your adventures going. Sounds like your penny pinching friends will want to join as well!
And let’s not forget, the beautiful beaches! Think of Portugal as California, but a tad bit warmer, essentially making it a perfect location for relaxing, swimming, and surfing. Typically, we know that the word Fiji is synonymous to ultimately luxury, but contrary to what you’ve probably heard, Fiji IS a great location for college students.
But first, let’s start with the given, Fiji is known for its stunning natural beauty, with its crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, and lush tropical rainforests.
In fact, the country is home to over 300 islands! Which means that you’ll have no days off because you’ll definitely be island hopping. Some ideal areas to visit are the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, as well as the Coral Coast, known for its scenic beauty and adventure activities.
If you’re in your eat, pray, love era, Fiji is an ideal destination to relax and unwind. Visitors can take part in yoga and meditation sessions, spa treatments and other activities that promote well-being.
But here is why Fiji is one of our favorites for college students. It’s affordability! For one, there are budget-friendly hostels and homestays that are often less expensive than hotels and resorts. You can rent a car or a scooter and explore the island at a lower cost, and of course, instead of hitting up fancy restaurants, you can enjoy the thriving and delicious street food scene.
