Who is eligible to purchase a ticket?
College and university students aged 16 and above are eligible to purchase a ticket from ScholarTrip. Additionally, some of our fares are available for purchase by youths (those ages 16-25, in most cases, but not attending a college or university) and college faculty (those teaching classes).

-
How early should I show up for my flight?
Most airlines recommend you arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure of a domestic flight and 3 hours before departure of an international flight. However, please take into consideration such things as busy travel periods and local airport/terminal/road construction.
If you’re uncertain, we encourage you to contact the airline you are traveling on for more details.
-
Can I make a special meal request?
Oftentimes airlines provide you the option to pre-select your meal from a menu of “special meals” that include such options as vegetarian, diabetic, gluten free, Kosher, low fat/cholesterol and vegan meals.
If you wish to have a special meal for your flight, please go to the airline’s website to make your request or call our Customer Support toll free at 1-855-452-0376. Keep in mind that you generally need to order your special meal at least 72 hours prior to scheduled flight departure.
-
Can I reserve my seat in advance?
Many of the cheapest fares don’t allow you to make a seat reservation prior to your arrival at the airport on the day of flight. However, more expensive fares come with many benefits, such as the ability to book your seat in advance.
If you would like to book your seat in advance, you may either go directly to the airline’s website to make the selection or call our Customer Support toll free at 1-855-452-0376.

Can I change my ticket or get a refund?
In most cases, the airlines stipulate the fares be non-refundable and non-changeable. However, if something comes up and you need to cancel or change your trip, you may be able to get a (partial) refund or exchange depending on the type of fare you’ve purchased. Ticket flexibility often correlates to price, with the cheapest tickets typically being non-refundable and non-changeable while more expensive tickets offer greater flexibility.
Tickets permitting cancellations and changes may have a penalty fee imposed by the airline; there may also be a ScholarTrip processing fee. Be sure to read the rules of the ticket at time of purchase.
If you need additional help, call Customer Support toll free at 1-855-452-0376 or send an email to [email protected]
-
Can I cancel my ticket?
You are able to cancel your ticket and request a refund. However, the amount of the refund, if any, depends upon the type of ticket you hold; your ticket may be non-refundable. The cancellation request must be submitted to ScholarTrip. If you cancel within 24 hours after the ticket has been issued, no fees are applied: This does not apply for tickets purchased on the day of departure!
If the cancellation request is submitted more than 24 hours after the ticket has been issued, you’ll have to pay the fee required by the Airline and will also be subject to a ScholarTrip service fee. As a general rule, all tickets must be canceled at least 24 hours prior flight departure.
If you fail to cancel your ticket and do not show up for your departure, the airline will treat the ticket as a "No Show" and the ticket automatically loses its value and therefore cannot be exchanged or refunded.

Do I need an ISIC, IYTC or ITIC card to purchase a ticket?
Absolutely not!
Purchasing a ticket from ScholarTrip does not require you to purchase a special ID card (saving you $25!) or pay to become a member of our website. We use our own tech to verify your student/youth/faculty status and eligibility.
-
Why do I need to get verified as a student, youth or faculty member?
The requirement to verify your eligibility is a stipulation of our airline partners. In exchange for performing the eligibility verification, we are able to obtain discounts exclusively for you. For most, the verification process is a seamless process.
However, if we aren't successful verifying your status, we may require you to provide additional identification.
-
If I don't pass student, youth or faculty verification, are there additional documents I can provide to become eligible for the special fares?
For students: If we cannot automatically verify your eligibility status, we will ask that you perform a simple upload of a copy of any two of the following:
- Your college/ university ID card (with expiration date), your class schedule or a tuition receipt.
For youths: For anyone registering as a youth, you will need to upload a copy of any one of the following:
- Your driver's license, passport, birth certificate, official state issued ID card or military ID.
For faculty: If we can't automatically verify eligibility status as "teaching faculty", we will ask that you perform an upload of your college/university ID card (with expiration date) and a copy of the classes that you teach.
-
Why am I being asked to re-verify my eligibility?
Some of our airline partners may require that we periodically re-verify your eligibility. Should that happen, we'll let you know if we require any additional documentation from you.
-
What currency is used on your website?
All references to fares & fees throughout our website are displayed in US Dollars. If you're using a credit card from a bank outside of the US, the charges will likely be converted into local currency. ScholarTrip is not liable for any fees associated with currency conversion and/or exchange rates.
-
Can my fare be quoted using a currency other than US Dollars?

-
Are vaccines required for my trip?
It is important for you to know if vaccines are required for the counties you'll be visiting on your adventure. Call your doctor or local health department to see if they can provide answers to your questions. For US citizens, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a great resource.
For information pertaining COVID-19 and where you can travel internationally, check Trip Guard; ScholarTrip is not responsible for any information appearing on the TripGuard website.
-
Do I need a passport for my international trip?
You must have a valid passport for all international trips that include air travel. As many countries have specific rules regarding passports, it is important that you verify the requirements for each country you plan to visit. Typical requirements include having a passport valid for six (6) months past the last day of your journey, and/or needing completely blank passport book pages for stamps or visas. If your passport does not meet the requirements of your destination, you may be denied boarding and lose the value of your flight ticket.
-
Do I need a visa for my international trip?
Visa requirements vary depending on the destination country and the nationality of the passport you hold. It is critical that you confirm foreign entry requirements for every country you plan to visit, including those that you will pass through just in transit. Contact the local embassy or consulate of your destination country. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to determine if a visa is needed, plus obtaining and paying for visas if required. If at a connecting city you're required to change airports, it will no longer be considered a "transit" and you will have to check the applicable rules for a "normal" visa.
-
If I am in high school can I purchase a ticket?
If you are in high school and aged 16 or over, you are eligible to purchase tickets that are made available to youth passengers. A youth is defined as a passenger who is age 16-25 and is not attending a college or university. Youth eligibility is determined by each of our airline partners and not all of our partners permit youth travel.
-
What if my school isn’t listed when I’m creating my profile?
While we try to include a comprehensive list of accredited/degree granted colleges and universities, when creating your profile you may find that the name of your school is missing. Try an alternative spelling or name for your school (eg, UCLA may be listed as University of California - Los Angeles). If that doesn’t work please reach call our Customer Support toll free at 1-855-452-0376 or send an email to [email protected]

What steps do I have to take in order to change, cancel or refund my ticket?
If you need to change your ticketed flights, such as the dates, destinations, or times, your ticket must be reissued. In most of the cases, airlines will charge a fee for exchanging a ticket and a processing fee will apply up to $100. Moreover, there may be a fare difference applied between the original dates and the new travel dates. Tickets cannot be changed online.
Some general rules to keep in mind are:
- Tickets may not be exchanged from one airline to another.
- You cannot change the name on an airline ticket or transfer the ticket to a third party (non-transferable).
- Tickets usually cannot be exchanged if you did not cancel your itinerary prior to the scheduled departure time of your original flight. This is called a “no show” and the airline considers your ticket to be null and void with no further value for an exchange. (Note: Most of the airlines require itineraries to be canceled 24 hours prior to originally scheduled flight to retain credit)
When you are considering a cancellation or a change, please contact our ScholarTrip travel specialists who will assist you with the request. Please note that cancellation policy depends on the type of fare and airline policy. ScholarTrip technical support agents are standing by 24/7 to help you with any request.
